Vision Board: The Inspiration Behind Project Hamilton Park

A shoe lover’s dream.

A shoe lover’s dream.

Inspiration can be defined as: “the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.”

As a designer, I am inspired by art, music, Pinterest, style and architecture websites, other designer’s Instagram photos, and photos of my past projects. But my primary source of inspiration is my clients. I love working with people to create their dream spaces, whether it’s a kitchen, bathroom, or an entire home.

With our Apartment Package, I work to give clients their dream space, sustainably, affordably. and with renters’ needs and limitations in mind. This service is all about giving apartment dwellers the solutions they need to make their space their own and make it work for them. When your home is also your “happy place”, your life is better. Living in a space you love enhances your relaxation, makes you feel more comfortable entertaining, and cleaning up is easier because your home is tailored to your life.

During the consultation, I listen to the client’s wants and needs. I ask questions about hobbies, storage needs, art, textiles, and colors to dig deep into the things that say “welcome home” to them and the changes we can make to get their space functioning better for them.

Following the consultation, I develop a mood board to give the client a visual story about how their space can be transformed. The mood board is the first step in every project. It sets the stage for all the decisions we make moving forward.

The client for Project Hamilton Park wanted to create the same feeling in her apartment that she had in the home she grew up in. Her family home had an eclectic collection of thrift store finds she and her mother purchased over the years. She felt her apartment “lacked the character” she loved and also craved color, another feature of her childhood home. She wanted plants requiring only minimal care and more seating in their living room to entertain friends and family. She also wanted to declutter the entire apartment.

In Project Hamilton Park Revealed: Plants, Styled Shelves, His & Hers Work Spaces, And More, I shared photos of the finished project and the story behind the living space and work spaces. But there is much more to this project. We also suggested ways to declutter the bedroom, create more storage space in the bathroom, and create a bright nook in the kitchen.

This mood board is the vision behind both the parts of Project Hamilton Park you can see on our blog and those you cannot.

After receiving the mood board and our recommendations, Apartment Package clients have the option of handling the rest of the project on their own or they can engage us in a few “a la carte” hours to implement the vision. This couple opted for the latter. We worked them them to move the furniture, style the shelves, source some special items including an area rug, a brass/marble “C” table, and some accessories. We also purchased the divine blue pillows—straight out of the mood board—for the couch.
