Ditching paper

Neutral Minimal Lifestyle Quote Social Media Post.png

When we grew up they taught us about the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Well at DBK Home we take those practices seriously, and one of the most unique ways to reduce your carbon footprint is another R: Replace.

We love replacing our paper products with more sustainable (and reusable!) goods. Toilet paper is about the only paper we use in our house, but everything else is reusable.

We love using cloth napkins instead of paper, my favorites are cotton and linen, and paying attention to the fiber makeup is another way to keep your footprint low. Another favorite in our home are our un-paper towels! We use these for everything you’d use a paper towel for, but without the waste! Ours are even more special because my mom made them from old towels and fabric scraps and gave them to us for Christmas. They have been a huge relief since we have so many spills with two little kids around the house. Instead of rolls and rolls of paper just going in the garbage, we can just throw them in the washing machine.

Another way to reuse? When a hand towel gets too raggedy and gross it becomes a rag. It’s also important to consider the type of material of your napkins and un-paper towels. A polyester product is significantly less sustainable than something natural.

Finally, instead of paper tissues — that again just get thrown away — we like to use handkerchiefs to blow our noses and cover them when we sneeze.

These are some of the ways we do our part to keep our planet green!
